What do you do dear / Emily Post Style
A Poem (v1)
Why did the chicken cross, we ask. Why did they just not stay.
What pushed this one into the road, whilst these other hens just lay?
Egged on to see what's out there? that mysterious other side?
Our reasons for thinking this or that, our unspeaking spirit guide.
Guided to our daily bread or kept away from harm
Why the chicken chose to make that trek, away from our cozy farm
A riddle better phrased it seems, not why they crossed but how
A bridge, a tunnel, a crossing guard. The power to cross is now.
Exploring the Poem
The relationship between how and why. How we do it is a different interpretation of the question why. Why did we end up crossing and in this way? What forces are we reacting to, regardless of our awareness. Why did we not stay?
A Guide to Emergent Guides
Sand, Sugar, Beans. Run a marble over the surfaces 100 times. What patterns emerge? What pathways end up guiding the journey of the marble. Can this be a repeatable project? Would it yield interesting visual results?
Thinking about what influences our decisions, animal or human. Physics is an influence. Sometimes it is an impactor. The difference being that "influence" implies choice; it implies alternatives.
